Cantariña 5 Valdeobispo 2021

Valdeobispo is a plot of almost 5 hectares close to Villafranca, on an historical privileged location for vine farming. Planted in 1910 it is no doubt one of the grand crús in Bierzo that we hope to have honoured with this our Cantariña 5. Splitted in two, the lower part is planted with mencía and the upper part with white grapes. Very old vines on a vineyard toughened by slope and passage of time producing low yiel and great aromatic concentration. We are obliged to farm it organically and sustainably, fostering biodiversity and balance among its living beings. Many stories live behind Valdeobispo… mortgaged to pay for college studies, hiding an entire house with three lagares and a well behind its growing beirones (bushes circling the limits of the state), and it gave name to the first high quality bottled wine in Bierzo among more than 40 hectáreas of different locations. Today its name represents its plot and claims back its past grandeur.

Tasting Notes Valdeobispo 2021

Dark purple colour, it shows plenty of violet flowers and red fruits on the nose. Velvety feeling, round taste of raspberries and blackberries, balanced fruitiness and acidity showing pure mencía characteristics. Rich in tannins, very ample and lots of length on the palate that remains for long and invite to another taste… A true heir of past times.
